San Antonio, TX — The San Antonio Brass Band, under the baton of renowned conductor Dr. Matthew Mireles, earned third place first section honors at the 2025 North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) Championships, held April 4–5 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This marks the second top placement of the band since it took first place in 2018.
Competing against elite brass bands from across the continent, the San Antonio Brass Band delivered a powerful and musically sophisticated performance that captivated both judges and audiences alike. The third-place finish marks a significant achievement for the ensemble, reflecting its growth, artistry, and rising status in the national brass band scene.
“We’re incredibly proud of this result,” said Dr. Mireles, who has led the ensemble since its inception. “The dedication, musicianship, and passion of our performers were on full display, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this honor back to San Antonio.”
The NABBA Championships represent the pinnacle of competitive brass banding in North America, with bands judged on technical precision, musical interpretation, and ensemble cohesiveness. This year’s event featured over forty of the continent’s top brass ensembles.
The San Antonio Brass Band's success in Fort Wayne builds on its ongoing mission to elevate brass band music in South Texas through excellence in performance, education, and community engagement.
